For some bizarre reason, I found myself pondering the question “What would a Stone Age version of Cabin Pressure be called?” Here’s my answer.
I also imagine that Gerti would be an elderly and temperamental pterodactyl….
Brilliant!
Top 40 / Pop: BBC Radio 1 & Radio 1Xtra
Adult Contemporary: BBC Radio 2
Classical: BBC Radio 3
News / Talk Radio: BBC Radio 4 & Radio 5live
Comedy: BBC Radio 4 Extra
Alternative Rock: BBC Radio 6
Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere BBC Radio 4 launch report ]
Infinite budgets aside, Gaiman and Maggs are full of praise for the UK’s tradition of radio drama, and specifically the BBC’s role in continuing that tradition, “I love radio drama more than I love any other medium,” said Gaiman, “There’s a specific magic to it. When it works it’s not like anything else.”
“Then Christopher Lee said yes, and we all nearly fainted.”
“Here is a photograph of Benedict Cumberbatch. He plays the angel Islington. Many of my friends strongly believe that photographs of Mr Cumberbatch and amusing photographs of kittens were what the internet was created for.”
On this day in 1978, the first episode of Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhikers’ Guide To The Galaxy was broadcast on Radio 4.
This picture shows Douglas Adams, Geoffrey Perkins (producer), David Tate (man of many voices), Geoffrey McGivern (Ford Prefect), Mark Wing-Davey (Zaphod Beeblebrox), Simon Jones (Arthur Dent) and Alan Ford (Roosta).
“I mean… technically, given that it was radio, Justin didn’t have to physically pick Benedict up for the ‘He’s flying!’ bit. But, well… he did.
I am helpfully holding the script for them. And I am also standing next to Prunella Scales. Oh yes.” (John Finnemore)
Die Herrschaften hängen sich ja mal wirklich rein für ihre Zuhörer :D
“Do you remember what happened to Icarus?”
“Of course I do!”
“So you’ve deliberately named your company after the first bad pilot in history?”
